British Team announced for Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in Kreischberg

British Ski and Snowboard have announced the team for the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships, the biggest freestyle event on this year’s calendar, taking place from 14th to 25th of January 2015 in Kreischberg, Austria.

After Great Britain’s success in Slopestyle at Sochi 2014, all eyes will be on Snowboard Slopestyle athletes Aimee Fuller, Jamie Nicholls and Billy Morgan who will be joined by Big Air specialist Sam Turnbull. Sam, Billy and Jamie will also compete in the Men’s Big Air, with Aimee representing the team in the Ladies event, which has recently been added to the schedule.  Snowboard Slopestyle qualification takes place on 19th, with the finals on 21st January. Big Air qualification is on 23rd with finals a day later on 24th January.

Katie Summerhayes, Anna Vincenti and Isabel Atkin are the three British Ski Slopestyle entries, with James Woods staying over in the US to compete in the X Games in Aspen, which take place from 21st-25th January. The three ladies will take part in qualification on 20th, with finals on 21st January.

In Ski Halfpipe, 17 year old Molly Summerhayes will take part in her first major competition, hopefully joined by Rowan Cheshire who is currently on her way back from injury. For the men, Sochi stars James Machon and Murray Buchan will battle it out in the halfpipe with many of the world’s best riders. Qualification takes place on 21st with finals on 22nd January.

In Moguls, Ellie Koyander will represent Great Britain in the ladies events, with Andrew Longley, who has come out of retirement to compete at the Championships, competing for the men. They will both take part in the Single Moguls competition on 18th and the Dual Moguls on 19th January.

Brother and sister Lloyd and Elodie Wallace will represent the team in the Aerials competition, which takes place on the first day of the Championships, Wednesday 14th January, starting with qualification. The finals take place the day after on Thursday 15th January.

The World Championships look set to produce yet more exciting Ski Cross competitions. Ed Drake will be representing the British men in Ski Cross, with Liz Stevenson, Emily Sarsfield and Pam Thorburn representing the women. Qualification takes place on 24th January with the finals on the last day of the Championships, Sunday 25th January.

In Snowboard Cross, Winter Olympian Zoe Gillings-Brier will ride alongside Stephanie Gehrig, in their first major competition of the season. For the men, Thomas Bankes will be Great Britain’s only representative. Qualification takes place on 15th, with the finals on Friday 16th January.
